Nice Winery in Houston

Nice Winery in Houston is a hidden gem off of Westfield Drive. They are all about wine and education, and I have learned so much over the years from their classes, tastings, and events. Best of all, their winery is family-owned with wines made from sustainably grown grapes.

The winery is in Memorial City near downtown Houston, and has both indoor and outdoor seating. If you sit outside, you get a lovely view of their grape vines and their greenhouse. The amazing staff is knowledgeable and always eager to help answer any questions you might have.

About the Winery

Nice Winery’s wines are sustainably-farmed without use of chemicals or additives. Winemakers Ryan Levy and Ian Eastveld are certified Sommeliers, wine educators, and Le Cordon Bleu trained chefs who developed a passion for food and wine while training at Le Cordon Bleu in France. They always have amazing stories about wine!

Due to their background as chefs, they have some of the most amazing food and wine pairing events. If you’ve never been, they’re one of the best.

The winery also hosts these amazing wine cruises each year, and the entire ship is reserved just for the winery. Last year was the Rhone on Ama Waterways, and Buddy and I got to go. It was so much fun that we immediately signed up for the Rhine cruise this year.

If you’re interested in taking a cruise through them, be sure to talk to the winery. The cruises sell out fast.

Nice Winery’s Wines

The winery makes quite a few wines and have won numerous awards–so many, that I’ll just highlight a few.

Wines at Nice Winery in Houston

This year at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, Rodeo Uncorked, the Reserve Grand Champion was awarded to Nice Winery for their Cabernet Franc, Paicines 2018.

They also won the Reserve Grand Champion wine for their 2013 Notorious Malbec Mount Veeder appellation for the 2017 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Uncorked International Wine Competition.

One of the most interesting white wines is the Nice Texas Blanc. The wine is made from Texas blanc du bois grapes and is bottled in a jug and sells out every year. (Look out for my review of it later this week!)

Personally, I love their Grace Chardonnay.

Visiting Nice Winery

In addition to wine tasting and food pairing, there are regular wine dinners that you can attend. Be sure to check out their website where you can purchase event tickets.

You can also stop by and order a charcuterie board and bottle of wine to enjoy. Buddy and I recently stopped by and did just that. They make their charcuterie boards in house, and they offer a small and large size. We ordered the small one and couldn’t finish it. The fig jam that was on it was my favorite–it was made in house and was fantastic.

Nice Winery is also one of my favorite wine clubs. It is monthly, and there are 4 to choose from. What I like about it is that in addition to receiving Nice wines, you also receive wines from small, family owned, sustainably-farmed wineries.

This gives you a chance to try wines that you normally wouldn’t necessarily know about. You are always given a write up about the wine to educate you about the wine, winery, foods to pair with and how to serve the wine (as in temperature, decanting, how long to decant).

Nice Winery has beautiful outdoor seating. Wine tastings and food pairings are by reservation only. Make plans to visit. You will certainly be hooked, as I was the first time that I visited years ago!
