Wedding Oak Winery on the Burnet Wine Trail

Wedding Oak Winery is an elegant winery on the corner of the courthouse square in the quaint little town of Burnet, Texas. Since it’s located in the town square, this winery doesn’t have the sprawling vineyard view many wineries have, but it’s still a charming and beautiful winery and a great place to host events.

Some people don’t realize, but they actually have three wineries–the one in Burnet along with two others in Fredericksburg and San Saba. The one in Burnet is a great stop to add on the Burnet Wine Trail along Highway 29 between Liberty Hill and Llano, and is a great way to try out their wines without the long drive to Fredericksburg.

ABout Wedding Oak Winery

Wedding Oak Winery was named after the 400 year old Wedding Oak tree that grows northwest of the winery in San Saba. The tree has been the site for numerous weddings and ceremonies starting with the Native American and continuing today–hence the name “Wedding Oak.”

I was surprised to learn that Wedding Oak is another Texas winery that makes its wines 100% from Texas-grown grapes. They make the wines from their own vineyards in San Saba and also work with other Texas vineyards in the Texas Hill Country and Texas High Planes.

They partner with several vineyards that work closely with their winemaking team. Their winemaker is Seth Urbanek, who is a native Houstonian. He has been producing some award winning wines. He has experience from the Finger Lakes region, South Australia and France.

Wines & Wine Tasting

Buddy and I had a wonderful time visiting Wedding Oak Winery in Burnet with some close friends. The winery offers four different wine tasting experiences, and three of us tried the red flight while the fourth had the red, white and true-to-Texas flight. They also offer an all white flight as well as a semi-sweet/sweet flight.

The staff at the winery was very knowledgeable and educated us as we did the tastings.

We also got to try a rosé before the red wines. I typically don’t enjoy rosé so I was going to try a white instead, but the lady doing our tasting talked me into staying with the rosé. I am so glad that she did! It was fantastic, and I ended up buying a bottle to take home–the 2021 Castenet.

The rosé was entered in the Experience Rosé Wine Competition in California in 2021 and took double gold and a 97-point score. It has strawberry shortcake and candied peach on the nose and tart grapefruit on the finish. Whenever you visit Wedding Oak, be sure to try this rosé regardless of which flight you choose!

In the red flight, Buddy and I most enjoyed the Texedo Red. It is 83% Dolcetto, 10% Syrah, 7% Tannat and is aged in French Oak. It has tasting notes of plum and black cherry.

Visiting the Winery

The winery in Burnet is deceptively large. From the courthouse square, I expected the winery to be smaller inside, but the facility is 8,500 square feet large and has a rooftop terrace (with an elevator for easy access) and a large patio outside.

There is a great outdoor seating area, and they have a couple areas devoted to their wine club members. If you have a party larger than seven, be sure to call ahead to make a reservation.

I am definitely looking forward to another visit!
