The Coho Merlot is a Michael Black vineyard merlot from Coombsville. You can never go wrong with this Napa Valley wine. This Merlot does not disappoint!
Michael Black’s vineyards are well known in Napa and Sonoma, as he has been a respected vineyard engineer and viticulturist for many years. This particular vineyard is on a rocky hillside in Coombsville and has cool air and volcanic soil. He propagated his own Merlot clone and named it the Black clone. Its small berries produce a very concentrated fruit. Coho purchases fruit from this entire vineyard for this Merlot. I have always said a good Merlot should taste much like a Cab.
It has a dark inky color and notes of plum, fig and dates. A slight spice and chocolate taste on the palate. You can certainly drink this alone or pair it with strong cheese such as blue cheese. It of course would be an excellent choice for a steak.
