An Old Fashioned cocktail is a simple recipe yet somehow so many bars get it wrong. If you order an Old Fashioned at a bar, and the drink comes to you full to the brim, send it back–that’s not an Old Fashioned! Let me show you why.
An old fashioned is made with bourbon or whisky, bitters, and a sugar cube (or some other sweetener) and garnished with a twist of orange and a cherry. It’s essentially a shot served over ice–preferably one of these large, single ice cubes that are really easy to make in an ice cube mold I got off of Amazon. I always have two trays filled in the freezer at all time!
Sometimes, the bar will top it off with club soda, but that’s not an Old Fashioned, and it just doesn’t taste as good. And how could it? It’s watered down!
This easy old fashioned recipe is one of my go-to drinks that makes an excellent night-cap. The best Old Fashioned cocktails use premium cocktail cherries, and you can’t find those at the grocery store. Luckily, Amazon sells them, and I make sure to keep a couple jars on hand so we never run out!

How to Make an Old Fashioned Cocktail:
