The No. 77 Atlas Peak Cabernet Sauvignon is a new release by Foyt Winery. The wine celebrates A.J. Foyt’s 4th win of the Indianapolis 500 from 1977. He was the first one to win it 4 times, so it’s quite the accomplishment to celebrate! Buddy and I tried the 2019 No.77 when we visited the winery in Fredericksburg the other month and really enjoyed it.
The grapes for the wine come from a small vineyard on the eastern slope of Atlas Peak. It is 95.85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 1.75% Malbec, 1.4% Merlot, 1% Petit Verdot. The grapes are hand-picked, and the wine is aged in 86% French and 14% American Oak barrels for 30 months.
This wine is big and bold. On the nose, it has dark cherry, berry, and plum aromas and has hints of dark chocolate. It is a very nice wine. This can be a standalone wine, or it definitely would complement a nice steak dinner.
You can pick this up from the Foyt Winery in Fredericksburg. There is also a location in Speedway, Indiana called the Foyt Wine Vault. It can also be shipped to you from California.
