Nice Texas Blanc Wine

The Nice Texas Blanc from Nice Winery is made from the blanc du bois grape, which is a special grape cultivated to prevent a major problem faced by southern vineyards.

Growing grapevines in southern climates can be challenging. The heat and humidity make the vines susceptible to Pierce’s Disease, which can easily decimate a vineyard. That’s why the University of Florida developed the hybrid blanc du bois grape in 1987.

The blanc du bois grapevines have a tolerance to Pierce’s Disease, making it a great fit to grow in Texas. Texas wineries vineyards have had a lot of success with this grape, using it to make white wine, sparkling, and fortified wines.

At Nice Winery, they make a white wine using this varietal. They use a unique bottle in the shape of a jug. The wine is a great summer wine and is similar to a sauvignon blanc, but not as tart. It is mild with aromas of apricot and has a citrus finish. The Texas Blanc also unfined and unfiltered, giving the wine a robust flavor.

The wine pairs well with shellfish–we enjoyed ours with shrimp pasta. Nice Winery has a waiting list for their Texas Blanc every year and sells out–that’s how good it is! I just recently picked up my shipment and wanted to highlight this wine.
