The Best Hill Country Winery Near Austin: 7 Creeks Vineyard

If you’re looking for the best hill country winery near Austin, 7 Creeks Vineyard in Burnet takes the gold. The winery has a little different vibe than a lot of other wineries I have visited. It’s easily the friendliest and most at-home vineyard you can find.

This winery is perfect for a short day trip from Austin, especially if you don’t have time for a full weekend winery trip to Fredericksburg.

Getting to the winery from Austin will take you through winding country roads with stunning hill country views. As you near the winery, when you see a barn painted with the Texas flag on the left and the American flag flying proudly on the right, you’ll know you made it!

Turning into the winery, you’ll get to drive through the winding road of the vineyard, giving you a chance to see all of the different varietals planted.

After you park and make your way into the winery to do a tasting, chances are you will be greeted by the vineyard dog, Blondie.

If you frequent 7 Creeks Vineyard a couple times, chances are you will run into someone you’ve met and they will remember you.

History of 7 Creeks Vineyard

The vineyard started with the Horne family’s vision of making Old World wines, and Burnet county was perfect to plant the types of vines that they wanted to plant–Souzao, Mourvedre, Alicante Bouschet and Vermentino.

They broke ground in 2017 and opened the doors to their winery in 2019. The Horne family has worked tirelessly to establish this family owned vineyard in the Texas hill country.

Wines to Try

7 Creeks Vineyard’s wines are sourced from California and Texas High Planes. If it’s your first time visiting, make sure you take advantage of their white and red wine tasting to try the full spectrum of what they have to offer.

I took my daughter this past week to try their wines for the first time, and she loved their red wine tasting–the Old Vine Zinfandel ended up being her favorite! My favorite go-to wines are the Tinta Amarela, Souzão, and Champagne.

Be sure to try out one of their wonderful charcuterie boards to go along with the wine. They also have smaller travel versions, which was better than many full charcuterie boards I’ve had at other places.

Insider Tip: When we visited last week, they were in the process of bottling a new wine that they’ll be releasing later in the year. My daughter and I got a chance to taste it, and it’s going to be a winner!! Word has it that there are a couple other new wines coming soon. Be on the lookout!

Visiting the Winery

7 Creeks Vineyard has a beautiful outdoor seating area under a group of giant oak trees, and if you keep an eye out, you may spot the scarlet tanager bird that hangs out around the vineyard.

They don’t have a regular menu at the winery, but if you check out their events page, you can arrange your visit during one of their events that serves food. Just this past Saturday, they had a wood fired pizza in the grove, and they have many similar events throughout the year. They’ve even had live music & tacos last month!
