Recently, Buddy and I went to Perissos Vineyard to taste their wines and enjoy the beautiful scenery. After the wine tasting, we ordered a bottle of my favorite wine from there–the Montepulciano.
The Montepulciano grape originates from central Italy and has thick skin, giving the wines created from it a deep red hue with notes of dark fruit or blackfruit with a hint of vanilla. It has bright acidity and balanced tannins for a smooth texture.
While the grape originates from Italy, Perissos’ sources 100% of their grapes from Texas vineyards. The winery partners with Diamante Doble Vineyards in the Texas High Plains for their montepulciano, and they do a fantastic job. In fact, Perissos won an award for their 2014 Montepulciano.
Of course, we had one of their more recent vintages while we were there, but I imagine it’s just as good as the award-winning 2014 vintage.
Perissos Montepulciano is an easy drinking wine and easily my favorite wine from their vineyard. It would pair well with Bolognese or any red sauce Italian dish. This would also be a great wine to pair with a pizza. Next time you are out at Perissos, be sure to pick up a bottle to try!
